Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is a subtype of AML that occurs when parts of two genes stick together. APL usually occurs in middle-aged adults. Signs of APL may include both bleeding and forming blood clots. Smoking, previous chemotherapy treatment, and exposure to radiation may affect the risk of adult AML.
The symptoms of APL are due to the shortage of normal blood cells. They include fevers, fatigue, loss of appetite, and frequent infections. People with APL are also at an increased risk of bleeding and forming blood clots. This is because of the shortage of platelets in their blood and changes in the level of abnormal proteins in the blood.

This new approach in the diagnosis of APS leads to the assessment of the risk of thrombosis considering the results of different aPL (lupus anticoagulants (LA), However, the incidence of early death remains high, with 29% of APL patients dying within 30 days of their diagnosis; in 35% of those early deaths, the patient never received all-trans retinoic Prompt diagnosis and treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), the M3 subtype of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), is very important because patients with APL can quickly develop life-threatening blood-clotting or bleeding problems if not treated.

Initial diagnosis is made with morphology and/or flow cytometry and is confirmed by molecular studies (FISH and/or PCR and cytogenetics). Flow cytometry findings can strongly support the diagnosis of APL. The introduction of all- trans- retinoid acid (ATRA) in APL therapy doubled the cure rate relative to chemotherapy alone. Remission rates of 80 to 90%, and rates of long-term survival exceeding 75%, were reached with the combination of ATRA and anthracycline-containing chemotherapy. Signs and symptoms of APL may include: Anemia Blood in urine (hematuria) Bruises Enlarged spleen and liver Frequent infections Headaches Joint or bone pain Nosebleeds Pale skin Small red dots under the skin (petechiae) Swelling or bleeding gums Very heavy menstrual flow Visual changes No: Acute promyelocytic leukemia (also known as APML and AML-FAB M3) is a very curable form of acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). Your prognosis is individual to you and depends on things such as: However, in spite of this tremendous progress, APL still remains associated with a high incidence of early death due to the frequent occurrence of an abrupt bleeding diathesis.
